2009 Professional Development Agenda Agenda

Continue delivery of professional development courses and activities to the REALTOR® Members, Affiliates and office personnel

Inform members of industry changes and board activities at all general membership meetings.

 Provide continuing education opportunities
 Forms
 MLS- In conjunction with the Annual Election offer MLS Rules & Regulations Training along with MLS updates by Modez & Jennifer.
 General Technology
Sponsor CE course on LREC required hours in 2009.

CE course with Lynn Madison (postponed from 2008)

Reimbursement fund for local, state & national courses toward designations.

Training for an additional professional standards instructor.

Provide ethics training to comply with the National Association of REALTORS® quadrennial training requirement for Professional Standards.

Deliver mediation training to the REALTOR® members 2009.

2009 Legislative/Risk Management Agenda Agenda

Legislative Advocacy– Continue to monitor issues impacting licensees and private property rights on the local, state and federal level

Maintain a pool of volunteers with interest/expertise on legislative issues.

Continue to monitor issues impacting the REALTORS® and Private Property rights in the areas of: (Areas below are ranked by team by virtue of importance to our area)
– Coastal Restoration
– Property Insurance
– Parish elevation system
– Regional Building Codes
– Subdivision ordinances
– Economic Development
– Houma/Terrebonne Airport Expansion
– Smart Growth
– North/South Hurricane Evacuation Route
– I-49 Corridor
– Lafourche Parish Water District (Will cover with 1st 2009 meeting)
– Blue Print Louisiana
–Continue two way REALTOR® member communications with elected officials on the local, state and federal levels

Effectively communicate legislative successes to membership.

Monitor parish council meetings
Form coalitions on issues impacting private property rights or issues impacting the parishes.

Promote and monitor affordable housing programs.


Risk Reduction

Continue to increase members’ awareness of legal issues, reduce risk and liability in conducting and promoting professionalism within the industry.

Continue the development of standard forms for use by the REALTOR® members

Promote to the members the risk management products and information available to them on the national and state levels. (Legal Defense, Red Stick Report)

Monitor legal and regulatory issues
- Do not call, Mandatory Seller Disclosure, Mandatory Purchase Agreements

Continue to promote and educate to the members the adherence to the Fair housing and antitrust laws.


2009 Housing Opportunities & Cultural Diversity Agenda Agenda

Support Fair Housing Contest through the State Association

Promote “April” Fair Housing Month ~ Maintain

Promote Affordable Housing Programs/Housing Opportunities ~ Maintain

– Efforts with Catholic Housing Services
– Have a speaker attend in April (Paula Ringo)
– Have a speaker attend in April to education members on Habitat housing (Check Presentation will be given at that meeting)
Monitor Predatory Lending (“Junk Fees”) ~ National Association of Mortgage Brokerage & OFI ~ Maintain

Monitor the availability of CDC (Community Development Corporation) programs.

Add links on board site to housing/loan programs etc.

Possible offer CE on housing loan programs, new FHA guidelines etc.


2009 Community Relations Agenda Agenda

Recognize REALTORS® who provide community support and make a difference in the community.

“Community Connection!”
– Create a system to notify members of hardships (death, illness ect.)

Promote and participate in the local Habitat for Humanity
– Create a direct path in the weekly news letter

- 2009 Project – possible fundraising event – 2009 Team will determine

– Continue support and participation in:
– Toys for Tots
– Christmas Community Projects
– Thanksgiving Food Baskets

2009 Membership Agenda Agenda

Continue an active Affiliate program –

Affiliate recruitment and retention
- Affiliate trade show(Maintain prior year’s format, fee structure and location)
- Affiliate Appreciation (ie, luncheon, after hours etc.)
- Seek REALTOR® and Affiliate member input through surveys.

Continue Awards and recognition program (REALTOR® of the Year, Life time Achievement, Community Service, Rookie of the Year, REALTOR® Member congeniality, Affiliate of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year)

Review survey results that were mailed with 2009 dues renewal.

 Questions; (1) How do you feel the board can better serve you, the member (Any other services the board can provide), (2) Can you rate the offerings and services the board offered you in 2008, on a scale from 1-5, with 5 being the best, (3) Do you have any interest in serving as a Team Chair or on the Board of Directors? (4) Any other comments or suggestion?
