In 2015 Smithsonian Magazine named Thibodaux one of the 20 best small towns to visit. Like all of south Louisiana, Cajun culture is at the heart of Thibodaux, but as the home of Nicholls State University, there’s also a vibrant and diverse gumbo of influences here. In the late 18th century, Thibodaux (named for one of its early settlers) was a trading post. Following the Louisiana Purchase by the US, the town became the seat of Lafourche Parish. Nestled around beautiful Bayou Lafourche, Thibodaux offers the best in culture, arts, dining, and shopping.
